Journal for 2009

December 9, 2009: Welcome to the new site!  I've decided to change a few things, and try to focus on the original intent of the site: music.  I hope to keep all new journal entries a little less head-scratching, too.  Keeping this brief for now; big day tomorrow: KISS is coming to town, and I'm going with my good friend Robert!  (actually, it's his treat for my birthday and Christmas present...damn I'm lucky!)

It's in April; the day I was robbed in '02!

Working away, just like old-n-times.  Days of being back in the 'hood are smelling familiar, and though I'm glad I experienced my 4 year experiment in Appleton City, I know it's good to be back in Kansas City.

I've learned so much, and wish I could take this knowledge and back up a few years (about 6, to be exact).  The year was 2003, and it was a Sunday evening in mid-April.  I'll tell myself once again (for the 10,000th time) that everything happens for a reason, and nothing happens by accident.  So with that in mind, I'll just sit here and wait it out :-)

I won! (kinda)

I entered another contest, and though I didn't make it into the final round, I guess they saw my efforts worth noting.

In other related news, I just sold another song to Regent Entertainment for one of their series' shows.  Things are starting to pick back-up again, thank God.  Ohh, and I get another royalty-check this week for Oprah songs played on her show.  I'm gonna fill my gas tank and go to Wal-Mart....Yee-haaaw!!!

Can I get a bail-out here???

Dang, I sure called that game wrong.  Guess we'll have to wait 'til next year.  You have to tip your hat to the 2 rookies (head coach and QB); pretty amazing for a first year in the NFL.

Masters of Illusion TV show
Monday, January 12, 2009  11:50pm
Kevin Ridgeway of 'Living Illusions' asked me for some music for their TV appearence on "Masters of Illusion".  The music used was 2 tracks from the 'Revelation' CD (Trk 1 and 11), edited together; he added the engine sound fx (kinda buried the music, unfortunately).  Probably close to 359 people tuned-in to watch... Man, the big time is right around the corner!  Here's the video:

Here we go!

Ravens win, Ravens win, Ravens WIN!!!

On to Round 2
Thursday, January 8, 2009  7:20pm
I don't think a brief comment on the Ravens' win in Miami last weekend would violate the curse, so I just want to say, Man: that team looked really, really good.  And Joe Flacco (the quarterback) is looking more and more like Johnny U every game he plays.  My unofficial prediction: his nickname will be 'Joe Cool', and someone on the Baltimore PR team will get with Peanuts' and create an official Snoopy/Flacco character.

I've been reflecting lately on what was the best year of my life.  So many to choose from; I guess I'm getting old(!)  I have to say 1998 was pretty good, but marred by the passing of Bob in early March.  1997: bought my first house, painting business started taking off, had a girlfriend for the first time in a while....nope.  1984: Hmmm, met who would end up being a few of my bestest friends, suffered through my first year of high school, and got my first job --at a record store (how cool is that for a 14 yr old?)  2000? Yeah, that's the year.  Opus 1 in Vegas, Buffalo and Dallas ...road-trip to Cedar Point, Mike and Jen's KU graduation (with a visit from Angela), and the best part of the year: spending the first part of the year in the company of Becky (until the end of May, when she moved); driving down to see her in Galveston after the Texas magic convention in Dallas (over Labor Day weekend).  Never will forget anything that year.

Happy New Year!
Friday, January 2, 2009  in-the-am
Howdy everyone!  I'm back from the dead, ready to take on another year of writing songs.  As in recent years, I'm still hopeful these tracks will actually end up on a CD to sell.  Until then, I'll keep you posted on progress of the 2 CD's I plan to get done this year.

Hope you like the new layout/design.  It's not a huge departure from the previous site, but sometimes things just work alright the way they are.
